; HDR: Habilitation to Direct Research, Paris-Saclay University, ) has been a professor at Institut Polytechnique de Paris / Institut Mines Telecom / Telecom SudParis since He was a research engineer at the Service de Recherche Technique de la Poste (SRTP), France, from to , and a Visiting Scientist at the Centre for Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence (CENPARMI, Concordia University, ), Montreal, Canada in , and then he became an Associate Professor at the Catholic University of Parana (PUCPR, ), Curitiba, Brazil, from to , where he cofounded a joint research lab on Automatic Document Analysis and Recognition, between PUCPR and CENPARMI.
From to , he was a Senior Researcher at Parascript (), Boulder, Colorado. At SRTP and Parascript, he has developed handwriting recognition software engines for real-life automatic mail sorting, bank check reading, and form p
